NOVEMBER 2011 "face of diabetes" photographic exhibition, contributing to Diabetes Awareness Week. We expect to have our show in Starbuck's, Culver St West. Artistic director, Jules Budd. Think about how YOU could submit some images. A selection of pictures will be used in the 2012 calendar, on sale from November.

4 SEPTEMBER 2011 Sunday. Massive sandcastle construction party, by Colchester Circle D, the local support group for Type 1 diabetics, down at Frinton from 10:00. Park at The Leas/Cliff Way. We'll meet on the beach below, walking towards Walton (ie turn left). Picnic lunch on the beach. High tide at 16:00. (This event has now gone national, with Circle D supporters from across the UK coming to Essex.) "And the castles made of sand, melt into the sea, eventually" - Jimi Hendrix.

24 JULY 2011 "Young Explorers" Bike Ride in Colchester. Event starts with Dr Bike, training taster and Venda Blenda, ride starts afterwards. A led ride from St John's Green, to Friday Woods and back. 7-mile circuit, almost all off-road. Refreshments afterwards.

MAY 2011 It was the "I hate diabetes" Cape Wrath escape competition. Many thanks to Fred Slattern, Colchester's slum poet, for leading on this event, as he cycled to the far north-west with his "message from essex" Scottish Highlands recitals. See separate button at the top of this blog.

FEBRUARY 2011: VALENTINES' SPECIAL. We hosted a "tea and heart shaped scones" afternoon at our home on Sunday 20 February. Special thanks to those who turned up, and to those absent friends who donated. 

JANUARY 2011: ACCRINGTON MARMITE MUSEUM opened, and is STILL OPEN, ALL TAKINGS TO JDRF. Thank you Stanley Olorenshaw, top geezer.
